Rogers Centre is recognized as one of the world's premiere entertainment centres since its spectacular opening on June 3, 1989. It is formerly known as SkyDome, which was renamed Rogers Centre on February 2, 2005. It is hosting sports events, concerts, family shows, trade shows and conventions with the capacity ranging from 5,000 to 60,000. As soon as you get into the stadium, the Videoboard and the retractable roof quickly take your attention. The Videoboard is one of the world's largest, measuring 110 feet wide by 33 feet high. The Retractable Roof is the world’s first fully retractable roof which opens or closes in 20 minutes. The roof is made up of 4 sections which open in a smooth, circular motion. The north panel remains stationary while the other three panels retract. It covers 8 acres (3.2 hectares) and weighs 11,000 tons.
Roger Centre also features Premier Fitness, Roger Centre Tour Experience, Theatre, state-of the art broadcast facilities, the Renaissance Hotel, and several restaurants and bars, including the world famous Hard Rock Cafe.
As the game unfolds, our friends meticulously explained to us the mechanics of the game. Of course we were cheering for the Blue Jays. Not long enough, I did realise that the baseball game is similar to the softball which is quite popular in my country. The main difference is that baseball is using a smaller ball than the softball.
The Orioles had most of the time dominated the game however, at the very last few minutes the Blue Jays managed to over-turn the score and ended-up as winners.
It was really fun and very exciting. What a great Roger Centre experience!
